Dirty Banners - 2011 - Dirty Banners

Definitive Empfehlung.

To continue a project like this blog after a pause that lasted a few months, you need quite some motivation. After looking through quite a lot of music the last days, I stumbled upon a newly released album by Dirty Banners and was reminded why I was starting this blog in the first place. Bands that put up their music for free, simply to be heard, shouldnt be this criminally overlooked. Which is also why they deserve it that some people come together to share their excitement for them.
The first album of Dirty Banners is surprisingly refreshing. You notice outright that they mostly dont care about who likes their music, but they sure as hell do themselves. Their music sounds energetic and most importantly simply fun. The Band appears to be refreshingly bold and is highly likely to find more fans especially through this juvenile boldness.
On top of the mostly rock-oriented songs, most of which would be a perfect fit on any indie party, on the album there are two slower songs. Especially Heart on, needs to be pointed out though as this song is unbelievably catchy and will be stuck in your head for quite some time. The charming opening whistle is one of the most likable song openers I've heard in a while. This is the song that is destined to attract more fans for the band, and they know it, which is why they even made a video for it: Video to Heart On.
The only thing you actually can accuse them for is for slightly using some refrains a tad too often, especially when hearing the album for the third or fourth time. On the other hand, to get people to listen to an album this often these days the album needs to be pretty good. I stopped counting how often I listen to this record, so definite recommendation.
