This album shows that Les Blanks had more than enough energy left over when it was created. This leads to an album which has a lot of ideas and indeed a few appealing tracks. Unfortunately, the album opener and the following song are not very convincing, for which reason it is best to hear through the whole album before making any judgement, since you really need to warm up with the songs and the style of Les Blanks. Something which has to be mentioned positively, is the fact that the band is making their music without the need or the desire to please a certain kind of listener group and simply sustain their raw energy throughout the whole album. Country-melodies are being used, as well as typical Wild-West piano music or impulsive rock-rhythms. By the end of the album, it manages to be more coherent and the songs noticably fit together, even when the songs have differing underlaying concepts. When giving this album a chance, it is very well possible to find songs that appeal to you. Les Blanks, and even more so the hasty nature of the singer, have a lot of potential and I am very curious whether I can hear another LP in the future which may be able to convince me more than their first album did, even though it still managed to keep me interested the whole way through.
